NEW SATURDAY ART FAIR BEGINS JANUARY 2ND

MYERS–The New Year will begin with an expanded weekend of art
activities in Downtown Fort Myers. The first monthly Art Walk of 2010
will be held Friday, January 1st, from 6-10pm. It will be followed by
a new Saturday Art Fair on January 2nd in the Patio de Leon.
The event will include a dozen art stops and will showcase new art
exhibitions, live music, and the traditional after party.
January marks the 16th monthly Art Walk which was started by a group of
art galleries and enthusiasts and debuted in October of 2008. Held the
first Friday of every month from 6-10 pm, Art Walk features local and
national artwork in the downtown art galleries and at several art stops
in the Fort Myers River District. The evening will culminate with an
after party beginning at 10pm at Spirits of Bacchus on Hendry Street.
The new Saturday Art Fair will run from noon until 4 pm on January 2nd.
More than 35 local art vendors will be set up in the Patio de Leon
selling their works. Downtown art galleries will also be open and some
will have “Make-It & Take-It” art projects available for the kids.
Admission is free. The Saturday Art Fair will run January through May.
The more than 30 participants in Art Walk now include the Alliance for
the Arts, Art League of Fort Myers, Art of the Olympians (opening
soon), Arts for ACT Gallery and Boutique, ArtFest Fort Myers, Inspire!,
The Burroughs Home (returning in February), Café Matisse, Conch Sweet
Corner Café, daas Gallery, Daily Chocolate, Delicious Things, Digital
Data Destruction, Downtown Deli & Market, Enjewel, First United
Methodist Church, Florida Repertory Theatre, Fort Myers Redevelopment
Agency, H2, Hampton Inn & Suites, Happenings A&E Magazine,
Hideaway Sports Bar, Hotel Indigo, HOWL Gallery/Tattoo, Main Street
Antiques, Morgan House Restaurant, Art at The Oasis/Renzo’s Designs,

Here are some highlights of the Friday, Jan. 1 Art Walk:
- Art League of Fort Myers: Members only “Abstracting” show opens.
Vocalist Peyton Davis of the Young Artists Awards will perform.
- Arts for ACT Gallery: Opening reception for exhibit featuring artists Christopher Tuscan, Lisa Freidus, and Sara Masters.
- daas Gallery: Opening reception for “Coloring the World”, featuring artist Stephen Gray-Blancett.
- Enjewel: Jewelry artist Joan Crabtree.
- First United Methodist Church: Group exhibit.
- HOWL Gallery: Show featuring works by Captiva fine artist and former Vogue photographer Rene Miville.
- Morgan House Restaurant: Exhibit featuring the fine art photography of John Swank.
- The Oasis Luxury Condominiums: Group show entitled “A Florida Style”.
- Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center: “Slave to Vanity” exhibit
featuring artist Michael St. Amand. The artist also performs.
- Southwest Florida Museum
of History: “Past and Future” exhibit showcasing the artwork of members
of the Art League of Fort Myers (discounted admission of $5).
- Space 39: An exhibit featuring artwork from the gallery vault.
Another highlight of the extremely popular evening will be the weekly
Friday Night Live concert, which takes place in the Patio de Leon.
Memphis 56 (rockabilly) will perform from 6-9 pm.
Truly a collector’s item, Art Walk buttons will be available at galleries that night.
A free shuttle service, with stops planned near the art venues, and
parking at the Harborside Event Center will be available for Art Walk
patrons. A map of Art Walk, transportation, and parking will be
distributed by participating galleries. Art Walk is a rain or shine
