Fort Myers Art Walk on March 5; Saturday Art Fair to be held March 6
FORT MYERS – The two day art event continues in downtown Fort Myers in March.
The third monthly Art Walk of the year will be Friday, March 5th, from 6 to 10pm. It will be followed by the new Saturday Art Fair on March 6th in the Patio de Leon from noon to 4pm.
The Friday, March 5th, Art Walk will include more than a dozen art stops and will feature new art exhibitions, live music, and the traditional after party. Held the first Friday of every month from 6 to 10pm, Art Walk features local and national artwork in the downtown art galleries and several art stops in the Fort Myers River District. The evening culminates with an after party at 10pm. The March after party will be held at Spirits of Bacchus on Hendry Street.
The Saturday Art Fair will run from noon to 4pm. Local art vendors and artisans will be set up in the Patio de Leon selling their art. Galleries will be open and some galleries will be featuring free “Make-It & Take-It” art projects for the kids. Admission is free. The Saturday Art Fair runs January through May.
The nearly 40 participants in Art Walk now include the Alliance for the Arts, Art League of Fort Myers, Art of the Olympians, Arts for ACT Gallery and Boutique, ArtFest Fort Myers, Café Matisse, Cigar Bar, Coloring The World, Conch Sweet Corner Café, daas Gallery, Daily Chocolate, Delicious Things, Digital Data Destruction, Downtown Deli & Market, Downtown House of Pizza, Enjewel, First United Methodist Church, Florida Repertory Theatre, Fort Myers Redevelopment Agency, French Connection Restaurant, H2 Downtown Bistro, Happenings A&E Magazine, Hideaway Sports Bar, Hotel Indigo, HOWL Gallery, Iberia Bank, Legacy Harbour Suites, LaTrattoria Restaurant, Main Street Antiques, Morgan House Restaurant, The Oasis Luxury Condos, Potomac Bead Company, Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, SKS PhotoShoot, Space 39 Gallery, Spirits of Bacchus, The Spot, The Veranda Restaurant, and the Young Artis ts Awards Program.
Here are some highlights of the Friday, March 5th Art Walk:
- Art League of Fort Myers: Opening of a new juried member show. The gallery will also host a performer from the Young Artists Awards Program.
- Art of the Olympians: Now open at the former City Pier building.
- Arts for ACT Gallery: Opening reception for exhibit featuring artists David Belling, Lennie Jones and Ken Kaminsky. The gallery will also host a performer from the Young Artists Awards Program.
- daas Gallery: Opening reception for "Click" featuring artist Paul Rodino.
- Coloring The World: Exhibit featuring artist Lisa Freidus.
- Enjewel: Showcasing artist Alan Koulian's unique murano jewelry designs.
- First United Methodist Church: Group exhibit featuring quilters Claudia Compton and Carol Dengler.
- HOWL Gallery: Opening reception for new show featuring pop and avant garde artist David Hatchett.
- The Oasis Luxury Condominiums: New art show entitled "It's all About the Girls," a fundraiser event for Footsteps to the Future.
- Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center: Opening for “Heavenly Bodies” exhibit featuring artist Jo-Ann Lizio.
- Space 39: Opening of a new group art show.
Also that night, the 7th annual Edison Celebration of Art will take place poolside at The Oasis Condominiums from 6 to 10pm.
A free, one-act play, “The Actor’s Nightmare” will be performed at 7 and 8:30pm at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center.
Another highlight of the extremely popular evening will be the weekly Friday Night Live concert series, which takes place in the Patio de Leon. Cheeky Monkey will perform from 6 to 9pm.
Truly a collector’s item, new Art Walk buttons will be available at galleries that night.
A free shuttle service courtesy of Select Transportation Inc., with stops planned near the art venues, and parking at the Harborside Event Center will be available for Art Walk patrons. Shuttle stops include The Oasis, Art of the Olympians, and Enjewel on First Street.
A map of Art Walk, transportation, and parking will be distributed by participating galleries. Art Walk is a rain or shine event. Art Walk was started by a group of art galleries and art enthusiasts and debuted in October of 2008. What is Art Walk?
Art Walk is a monthly art and cultural event held the First Friday of each month from 6-10pm in the Downtown Fort Myers River District. The event is a self guided and self paced tour of Downtown Art Galleries and Businesses. Participating business that showcases art during Art Walk include galleries, museums, retail shops, and community centers. The Art Walk Brochure is available at most River District businesses and includes a map of the event that indicates participating Art Stops and Business Partners.
Free Art Walk Trolley Service - As part of the event a free trolley service takes Art Walkers from the core downtown area to Art Stops located outside the immediate walking area. The trolley returns to each stop in 20-30 minute rotations. Please check the Art Walk map for the trolley icon that indicates a Art Walk Trolley Stop.
The Art Walk After Party is held from 10 until close at different Downtown establishments after Art Walk ends at 10pm. Expect to see gallery owners, artists and art collectors at these relaxed celebrations. To find out where the after party is ask a Art Stop or check the Art Walk Brochure.
Support Downtown Galleries and Businesses - Art Walk is all about the art galleries, businesses and stores that make up the Downtown Fort Myers River District. The event is an indoor art gallery event. Currently street vendors and artists are not permitted during the event. A second day of outdoor activities including street vendors and activities for artists, children and families is being discussed.
