Music Walk Brings Out Local Talent February 26th

The monthly Music Walk event returns February 26th. The downtown Saturday event features live music at over a dozen venues, including restaurants, galleries and bars, plus a variety of street performers all over the beautiful downtown Fort Myers River District. Music Walk venues showcase a range of music, from original indie rock to steel drums, piano, vocalists and saxophone. The event is the largest monthly of its kind regionally. Music Walk is an all ages event that starts at 7 p.m. and goes until close at many venues. Free parking available.

Music Walk partners and venues include: HOWL Gallery/Tattoo, Spirits of Bacchus, Red Rock Saloon, Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, Space 39, French Connection Cafe, Happenings Magazine, Hotel Indigo, Twisted Vine Bistro, Indigo Room, Harborside Event Center, City Tavern, Downtown House of Pizza, World Famous Cigar Bar, Hideaway Sports Bar, Morgan House, The Veranda Restaurant, AmeriDry, Classic Rock 94.5, WinkTV, and Cool Hand Luc's.

Each month brings more and more people to Music Walk, with an estimated 4,000 attendees to the January event. Music Walk is organized by Andy Howl of Howl Gallery/Tattoo with the help of downtown resident and former South Beach gallery owner Dee Hohimer, Suzy Lewis of Spirits of Bacchus, and Jamie Kuser of Happenings Magazine. Music Walk exists under the umbrella of the River District Alliance, a non-profit organization that manages downtown events and brings together business owners in the River District.

Highlights of the Saturday, February 26th Music Walk include:

HOWL Gallery/Tattoo - Featuring original indie rock by Hothouse and David Groves. David Groves performs live on the WINKTV Morning Show Friday, February 25th between 8 and 9am.

Spirits of Bacchus- Live music by Very Vanilla featuring Heather Brooks (Vanilla Crosby).

Red Rock Saloon - Michael Allen at 7pm and hard rock by the Gladezmen at 9pm. Plus Harold Antoine performs on steel drums outside 6:30 to 9.

French Connection - Live music by Mike Imbasciani.

Twisted Vine (formerly H2) - Live music by Patrick Jerome.

Indigo Room - Featuring live music by rockabilly band Memphis56.

The Veranda - Enjoy the musical stylings of Gary Goetz at our famous Piano Bar.

Hideaway Sports Bar - Live rock by Triple Threat outside. Red socks block party all day.

Downtown House of Pizza - Live music by Anthony Wayne.

City Tavern - Featuring live rock by Headcount.

Artful weekend begins with Friday’s Art Walk in downtown Fort Myers

Art Walk will kick off a very artful weekend in the downtown Fort Myers River District in February.

Friday, Feb. 4 marks the next Art Walk, which boasts the addition of another new gallery downtown.

The monthly downtown event will showcase new art exhibits and include art in the Patio de Leon featuring 25 artist vendors.

Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Friday of each month. The February Art Walk will include more than a dozen art stops and feature new art shows, live music, and the traditional after party. The February Art Walk welcomes another new gallery downtown. Lisa Boucher has opened Green-n-Groovy, a gallery and boutique, on First Street, just east of Hendry Street. This newest business marks the 11th art gallery space in the downtown and third new art gallery in three months.

Because the first weekend in February is ArtFest Fort Myers downtown, the traditional Saturday Art Fair will not take place at its normal time. Instead, those artist vendors will be showcased in the Patio de Leon on Friday night during Art Walk.

The annual ArtFest Fort Myers takes place Saturday and Sunday mainly on Edwards Drive along the Caloosahatchee River, but will also occupy some space on Hendry Street. ArtFest will also have a special preview of artists on Friday, Feb. 4, during Art Walk.

Some highlights of the Friday, Feb. 4 Art Walk:

- Art of the Olympians: Opening of a 30-year retrospective of Passion on Paper by Olympian Artist, Dr. Liston Bochette III, a locally-based Olympian.

- Art League of Fort Myers: Opening of new show entitled Feb Fest.

- Arts for ACT Gallery: Opening reception for new exhibit showcasing new works by Pavol Roskovensky. Additionally, the gallery will feature Young Artists Awards artwork by children with cancer. A vocalist from the Young Artists Awards will also be performing.

- Coloring The World: Celebrates its first year anniversary. Featured artists will be Stephen Gray-Blancett, Raven Lamoreux- Dodd, Sandy Pond, Lee Susdorf and Mac Worthington.

- daas Gallery: Opening reception for Passion exhibit by artist Ray Hernandez.

- Gallery Showcase and Information Center at IberiaBank (Bayview Court at First Street). Art Walk T-shirts are available at this location as well as buttons, maps, and brochures.

- Green-n-Groovy: Featuring whimsical garden art sculptures by artist Marcos Carrera.

- HOWL Gallery/Tattoo: Opening reception for Modern Wood, featuring the avant-garde sculpture of New York and Fort Myers based artist David Hatchett. Exhibit partially funded by a City of Fort Myers 2010 Arts & Culture Grant.

- In One Instant: Featuring the photographic work of Michael John Andersen.

- Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center: In Making History exhibit, a series of portraits revealing people that Fort Myers history makers say influenced them most.

- Space 39 Gallery: Group show featuring local, national, and international artists.

Another highlight of the very popular evening is the weekly Friday Night Live free concert series which takes place in the Patio de Leon. John Mooney (slide guitar and vocals) will perform from 6 to 9 p.m.

Always a collector’s item, new Art Walk buttons will be available at galleries that night. Art Walk has its own T-shirt (in red or black). Shirts are available for a $12 donation at the IberiaBank gallery showcase during Art Walk.

A free shuttle service courtesy of Select Transportation Inc., with stops planned near the art venues, will be available that evening.

A map of Art Walk, transportation, and parking will be distributed by participating galleries. Art Walk is a rain or shine event. Art Walk was started by a group of art galleries and art enthusiasts and debuted in October of 2008. Art Walk is a River District Alliance event. Start 2011 with Fort Myers Art Walk on Friday, Jan. 7

The new year brings new art exhibits and the opening of another new gallery to the downtown Fort Myers River District in January.

The first Fort Myers Art Walk of 2011 will be Friday, Jan. 7. The monthly downtown event will showcase several new art exhibits and be followed by the expanded Saturday Art Fair on Jan. 8.

The monthly Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Fridays.

Art Walk includes more than a dozen art stops and will feature new art shows, live music, and the traditional after party. The January Art Walk welcomes another new gallery downtown. Paul Rodino is opening In One Instant on Jackson Street, just south of First Street. This new business marks the tenth art gallery space in the downtown.

Growing in participation, the seasonal Saturday Art Fair has outgrown the Patio de Leon and has expanded to nearby Dean Street (between First and Bay). The Art Fair has expanded its hours to 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and now features 25 local artist vendors.

Some highlights of the Friday, Jan. 7 Art Walk:

- Art of the Olympians: Opening reception for new show, Through the Eyes of a Child, an international children’s art exhibit. Also showing artwork of Olympic artist Pat McCormick and Olympic artist Jean-Blaise Evequoz.

The monthly Saturday event features live music at over 18 venues, including restaurants, galleries and bars, plus a variety of street performers all over the newly renovated downtown Fort Myers River District. Music Walk Venues and performers showcase a range of music, from acoustic soloists to punk rock, piano, steel drums and saxophone. The event is the largest of its kind regionally and has helped to prove that the Fort Myers River District is the new center of arts and culture in Southwest Florida. Music Walk is an all ages event that starts at 7 p.m. and goes until 2 a.m. at many venues. Free parking downtown.

The Fort Myers Music Walk debut in August was a major success, bringing out from 3,000 to 5,000 attendees. The event is organized by Andy Howl of Howl Gallery/Tattoo and supervised by former South Beach gallery owner Dee Hohimer. Music Walk exists under the umbrella of the River District Alliance, a non-profit organization that manages downtown events and brings together business owners in the River District.

Fort Myers Art Walk celebrates the holidays on Friday, Dec. 3

The Fort Myers River District is alive with many holiday events including the Fort Myers Art Walk on Friday, Dec. 3. The monthly downtown event will showcase several new art exhibits and be followed by the expanded Saturday Art Fair on Dec. 4.

The monthly Art Walk runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on the first Fridays. The December Art Walk will include more than a dozen art stops and will feature new art shows, holiday displays, live music, and the traditional after party. This Art Walk welcomes a new gallery downtown. Syzygy Gallery recently opened on First Street at the Patio de Leon entrance.
Additionally that night, the Fort Myers Womanâs Community Club will hold their annual Holiday House displays at the Burroughs Home and the Langford-Kingston Home, both located at the corner of First and Fowler streets.

Growing in participation, the seasonal Saturday Art Fair has outgrown the Patio de Leon and has spread out to nearby Dean Street (between First and Bay). The art fair has also expanded its hours to 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and now features 23 local artist vendors.

Some highlights of the Friday, Dec. 3 Art Walk:

- Art of the Olympians: Center welcomes Swiss Olympic fencer Jean-Blaise EvÃ©quoz to Southwest Florida for the opening its newest exhibit featuring more than 30 original works from the Olympian artist.

- Art League of Fort Myers: Opening of The Holiday Show (with small packages). A vocalist and a pianist from the Young Artists Awards program will be performing from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

- Arts for ACT Gallery: Opening reception for new exhibit featuring artists Christina Jarmolinski and Rob de Koter.

- Coloring The World: Holiday art exhibit.

- daas Gallery: Opening reception for SOULections featuring artwork of Matthew Davis.

- Art Walk Visitor Center at IberiaBank -Â (Bayview Court at First Street). Art Walk T-shirts are available at this location as well as buttons, maps and brochures.
