With two successful years under its belt, Fort Myers Art Walk is getting some well-deserved recognition by the city. Fort Myers Mayor Randall (Randy) Henderson will honor Art Walk on Monday, Sept. 20 at a meeting of City Council. Because of the tremendous popularity of Art Walk, Mayor Henderson is proclaiming Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 as Fort Myers Art Walk Day.
Art Walk will officially celebrate its two-year anniversary on Oct. 1. The October Art Walk will include more than a dozen art stops and will feature new art shows, live music and the traditional after party.
Started by a small group of art galleries and art enthusiasts, Art Walk debuted in downtown Fort Myers in October of 2008. It attracts between 1,500 and 2,300 people each month.
“Fort Myers Art Walk has inspired thousands of visitors to our Downtown River District reaching across all social boundaries to inspire diversity, fellowship and economic activity,” the mayor’s proclamation states.
Art Walk co-chairs Andy Howl and Jamie Kuser, who are both part of the Art Walk founding committee, will be on hand Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall when the mayor recognizes the cultural event with his proclamation at the beginning of the City Council meeting.
Held the first Friday of every month from 6 to 10 pm., Art Walk features local and national artwork in the downtown art galleries and several art stops in the Fort Myers River District.
